Italian Hot Chocolate (Cioccolata Calda)

Ingredients
  

  • 500 ml milk regular or plant-based
  • 70 g sugar 1/4 cup + 1½ tbsp
  • 70 g cocoa powder 3/4 cup + 2 tbsp
  • 16 g cornstarch 2 tbsp

Method
 

  1. In a saucepan, whisk together cocoa powder, sugar, and cornstarch until well combined.
  2. Pour in a small amount of milk and stir until a smooth, clump-free paste forms.
  3. Gradually add the rest of the milk while stirring continuously to blend everything smoothly.
  4. Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring constantly.
  5. Continue to cook until the mixture thickens to a creamy, smooth consistency. The longer you simmer, the denser it becomes. For a classic creamy version, remove from heat once simmering begins.
  6. Pour into mugs and enjoy warm!
