Tofu “Meat” Balls

They’re full of flavour, super easy to make, and have the perfect tender and satisfying consistency. Serve them with tomato sauce, pair them with some spaghetti or eat them as a side.

Firm tofu, garlic, herbs, breadcrumbs, come together in minutes, and you can bake or pan-fry them until they are golden and ready. They are a delicious alternative to classic meatballs, loaded with protein and fiber and no eggs or dairy required. If you’re gluten-free, just swap with your favorite GF breadcrumbs.

You can easily customize them, adding extra spices, herbs or mix in veggies. Whether it’s a quick weeknight dinner or a meal prep for the week ahead, these tofu “meatballs” won’t disappoint you.

Ingredients You’ll Need:

  • Firm tofu
  • Garlic
  • Breadcrumbs
  • Fresh basil and parsley
  • Paprika
  • Nutritional yeast (optional)
  • Salt and pepper

Tips

Tofu tips: Use firm tofu and pat it dry well to avoid excess moisture. No need to press it completely, just pat it dry with paper towels. Alternatively, you can also use medium-firm tofu, in this case, you may need to add more breadcrumbs to the recipe.
Herbs: Fresh basil and parsley both work here, use what you have.
Breadcrumbs: If the mixture feels too wet, add a bit more breadcrumbs. If it’s too dry, a splash of plant milk or a drizzle of oil can help.
Make ahead: You can shape the meatballs ahead of time and refrigerate them for up to 2 days.
Serving idea: Delicious over spaghetti or paired with roasted veggies and grains.

Storage

Leftover tofu balls can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. They reheat well in the oven or skillet, just warm them until heated through.

Ingredients
  

  • 454 g firm tofu 1 packet – 16 oz
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 80 g breadcrumbs 1/2 cup + 2 tbsp
  • basil + parsley
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1.5 tbsp nutritional yeast optional
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method
 

  1. Pat dry the tofu to remove excess moisture.
  2. Add tofu, garlic, basil, parsley, breadcrumbs, paprika, nutritional yeast (optional), salt, and pepper to a food processor or blender.
  3. Blend until a soft, moldable mixture forms. Add more breadcrumbs if needed.
  4. Roll the mixture into small balls.
  5. Lightly fry the balls in a bit of olive oil until golden about 5 minutes.
  6. Simmer them in tomato sauce for 10–15 minutes.
  7. Serve warm and enjoy!
