Creamy Peanut Butter Yogurt Cups with Cocoa Topping

There’s something irresistibly comforting about creamy peanut butter paired with the rich, deep flavor of cocoa—and when you combine these with smooth yogurt, you get a breakfast or dessert that feels both indulgent and wholesome. These Creamy Peanut Butter Yogurt Cups with Cocoa Topping are the perfect way to start your day or satisfy a sweet craving without overdoing it on sugar or processed ingredients.

This recipe comes together in just minutes, making it a great grab-and-go option for busy mornings or a quick treat after a long day. The base is simple: plain yogurt mixed with creamy peanut butter and a touch of natural sweetness from maple syrup or honey. This combo provides a lovely balance of protein, healthy fats, and just enough sweetness to make it feel special.

What really takes these yogurt cups to the next level is the luscious cocoa topping. Made with cacao powder, a bit of water, and a hint of sweetener, it creates a silky, chocolaty layer that contrasts beautifully with the nutty, tangy yogurt beneath. The topping is quick to whip up and adds an elegant finishing touch that feels like dessert but is actually nourishing and satisfying.

Whether you’re serving this for breakfast, an afternoon snack, or a light dessert, it’s an easy recipe that can be customized to your taste and dietary needs.

Ingredients you’ll need:

  • Plain yogurt
  • Peanut butter
  • Maple syrup or honey

For the cocoa topping:

  • Cacao powder
  • Water
  • Maple syrup or other sweetener

Tips:

  • Stir the peanut butter and yogurt mixture well until smooth—use room temperature peanut butter for easier blending.
  • Use your favorite cookies— digestives (what I used), or even oat biscuits all work well.
  • Dip cookies quickly in milk to soften without making them soggy.
  • Top with crushed peanuts, cacao nibs, or a sprinkle of sea salt for extra flair.

Variations:

  • Dairy-free: Use coconut, almond, or oat yogurt instead of plain dairy yogurt.
  • Nut-free: Swap peanut butter for sunflower seed butter.
  • Flavor boost: Add a pinch of cinnamon or vanilla extract to the yogurt mixture.
  • Crunch factor: Top with chopped nuts, seeds, or granola before serving.
  • Sweetener swaps: Use agave syrup, date syrup, or brown rice syrup instead of maple syrup or honey.

Storage:

These yogurt cups are best enjoyed within the first 24 hours for the freshest taste and texture. However, you can store them in the fridge for up to 2 days without losing too much of their creaminess and flavor.
